The 12 August is Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s birthday or วันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ (wan-chà-lə̌əm-prá-chon-má-pan-sǎa-sǒm-dèt-prá-naang- jâo prá-bɔɔ-rom-má-raa-chí-nii-nâat) in Thai language. This public holiday is celebrated nationwide as Mother’s Day (“wan mɛ̂ɛ hɛ̀ɛng châat” – วันแม่แห่งชาติ). The Queen is considered as the mother of all Thai people.

Majority : Start a child and a parent. Mother counseling lifestyle. Family. Introducing the role of a good husband or wife. The role of good parents. Experience with the mother. Knowledge to the next.

Summary : Mother child understand and the strategies of child care. Help foster a deep relationship (Intimacy).Make children successful in lifestyle. Because children develop the self. Confidence. Can resolved the problem. Can to build relationships with people. Mother to see children happy. There are more than happy.

Buddhist Lent day / วันเข้าพรรษา(wan kâo pan sǎa)

On Tuesday 27 July,2010 is “Buddhist Lent Day”

The commencement of the three-month Buddhist Lent, Known among Thais as kâo pan sǎa, traditionally falls on the first day of the waxing moon of the eighth lunar month. During this period, coinciding with the rainy season, Buddhist monks and novices remain closeted in their particular monasteries, discouraged from spending nights elsewhere.

The custom of spending three months of the rainy season in a fixed place is a ritual successfully observed since the time of the Lord Buddha. In those day, however, villagers attributed young seedling damage at the start of the planting season to unnecessary travel by monks. Realizing that monks on pilgrimages could accidentally tread on young plants, the Lord Buddha decreed that his followers spend three months of the rainy season in permanent dwellings.

In cases of necessity, such as taking care of sick monks or parents or conducting religious functions, monks may travel and stay away from their monasteries during this period. However, they are required to return within seven days.

To observe Buddhist Lent, Buddhists usually perform merit making, giving alms to monks, attending sermons and participating in candlelight processions, They also strictly observe Buddhist ethics, especially on holy days.

During the three-month annul “rain retreat,” monks study more and teach those who have chosen this period to enter monkhood. Laymen usually visit temples to offer monks food, clothing, medicine, flower, joss sticks, Lenten candles and other offerings. Such practices they consider highly meritorious.

In ancient times, the number of flowers, joss sticks and small candles presented to a temple was usually equal to the number of monks in that temple. Where there were surplus candles, villagers tended to make numerous small candles into large one for presenting to temples. The large candles being stronger, with more light and longer lasting.

Buddhists believe that offering candles to monks as a means of light will also brighten up their future. These candles are known as Thian Phansa.

To make the Buddhist Lent, a Candle Festival takes place in all parts of Thailand. In the northeastern region, especially Ubon Ratchathani Province, which celebrates its famous Buddhist Lenten Candle Procession each year, the festival takes place on a grand scale.

Thai People Wholeheartedly Pay Tribute to His Majesty the King

Every year on the fifth of May, Thai people across the nation wholeheartedly celebrate Coronation Day, which marks the coronation anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

His Majesty the King was crowned on 5 May 1950, four years after he actually assumed his kingship in 1946. The coronation ceremony was performed in the Grand Palace in accordance with ancient royal traditions. At the ceremony, His Majesty uttered the traditional proclamation: “We shall reign with righteousness for the benefits and happiness of the Siamese people.” His activities and engagements throughout the more than 60 years of his reign have already confirmed this historic oath. He has been the leading and guiding spirit behind much of Thailand’s remarkable growth in international prestige and trust.

The fact that His Majesty the King has reigned for more than 60 years has given him a great advantage, as he has dealt with people all over and in different situations. His views and suggestions are of great importance, and the Government places value in them. His advice is sought in major decisions affecting the country as a whole. Known around the world as a king who is devoted to working hard for the well-being of his subjects, His Majesty the King has tirelessly visited his people everywhere. His useful advice has helped in the improvement of their living conditions. More than 3,000 projects have been carried out under his initiatives, mainly to raise the standards of rural life and enable his subjects to be self-reliant.

His Majesty the King married Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara on 28 April 1950, and on his coronation day in the same year, he elevated his consort to the highest rank and conferred on her the title “Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.” Her Majesty the Queen always remains at the side of His Majesty, sharing his concerns for the suffering of the Thai people and his hopes for their future well-being and happiness.

The coronation anniversary this year is special, as it is entering the 60th anniversary of His Majesty’s coronation. In June 1988, His Majesty became the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history, surpassing the 42-year reign of his grandfather, King Chulalongkorn, Rama V. In 1996, His Majesty celebrated his Golden Jubilee, and in 1999, he observed his 72nd birthday, a milestone accompanied by an outpouring of affection from his people.

With equal affection, in 2006, cerebrations were held on the auspicious occasion of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne. That made him the longest-reigning monarch in today’s world. It culminated in the grand reception attended by monarchs or representatives of 25 of the contemporary world’s 28 monarchies, as a show of congratulatory tribute to His Majesty’s dedication, foresight, and wisdom, reflected in Thailand’s economic growth, the well-being of its people, and the security of the nation.

5 May 2010 is an occasion marking the entering into the 60th coronation anniversary of His Majesty the King. Several events are being held to celebrate this occasion nationwide.

Loy Krathong.

One of the most beautiful festivals that takes place in Thailand is the one for Loy Krathong. This is celebrated on the full moon in November. The word loy means to float, and a krathong is a banana leaf cup. People place a candle and incense sticks in their krathongs and then float them on a local river or pond. As they push away their krathong, they ask for forgiveness in polluting the waterways and also for good luck in the coming months.
